If you have the time (all day) you MUST hike the Harding Icefield Trail that begins at the Exit Glacier Nature Center. The Icefield is the heart of the park, covering nearly half of the 607,805 acres. The trail begins in a temperate rain forest and follows the side of Exit Glacier for nearly 4 miles through a snowfield (in August) to an overlook of the Icefield. It was an awesome experience, one that we will never forget. We loved the Exit Glacier area so much we came back on our last day to hike the short Exit Glacier Trail. We also did the 6 hour Kenai Fjord boat tour to see the park from the water. Truly incredible and on such a grand scale!

Love this area! The minerals leach out of the rocks and you see the color staining. Stunning from the water side and taking a boat in or going on a boat tour is the best way to see. If hiking above, the rare Jacobsville sandstone and other geologic features make this a can't miss park. Actually a National Lakeshore not park, but few are greater in the country. Fantastic.

I stubbled upon your site through an internet news article that you had commented on. Ive always wanted to do what it is you are doing, and i think its great. I actually have worked in Yosemite on and off for the past 6 years and consider it my home. I would highly recommend doing some hikes in the high country and getting out of the valley... too BUSY!!! it distracts from the natural beauty when there are people EVERYWHERE. Also, on a side note, you mentioned that youre wife often confuses Yellowstone and Yosemite, as people often do. You also put "Yellowstone" falls, but its actually Yosemite Falls. Hope your travels find you well. take care.

Went to Yosemite National Park last May while visiting my best friend in California. Even in May, snow still clings to the higher peaks. Although El Capitan (and the crazy climbers scaling it!) and the sereneness of the landscape were awe-inspiring, for me the most magnificent and unforgettable site was Half-Dome.

Castle Clinton is an amazing structure right at the southern tip of Manhattan. Like many things in NYC, the structure has been many things and has even had a few different names. My first trip there was for a free Arlo Guthrie concert about eleven years ago. It's a must-see when touring through NYC's long and rich history.

Last summer we spent some time in Washington State. We camped at Dungeness and did day trips from there. I loved Hurricane Ridge. I was super impressed with how accessible it was without sacrificing the scenic quality - we saw people with strollers and walkers, etc. and the path was paved, but it was still beautiful. I also absolutely loved the Hoh Rainforest. Next time we're out there, I want to do a backpacking trip through Hoh.

Hey Ari, been here myself. Was reading a lot of Zane Grey while in Texas and am intrigued by the history of this people. Went through the 4 corners area and stopped by Mesa. Long way up but worth it! By the way, for insights in a fiction setting, check out Louis La Mours book "Haunted Mesa". There is much insight into the Anasazi in there!
